When Red Skull is dying due to his imperfect Super Soldier Serum, he teams up with MODOK who upgrades HYDRA's tech from A.I.M. to kidnap Captain America. Red Skull wants MODOK to help him transfer his mind to Captain America's body. After his defeat by a reassembled team of Avengers, Red Skull takes Iron Man's armor for its life support system. This leaves Tony for dead.^[6] The Avengers get Stark a new Iron Man armor. Red Skull attacks them at their mansion. Red Skull is once again defeated. The Avengers Mansion is destroyed during the fight. Red Skull plans to take away everything the Avengers hold dear from their lives to their country by trying to have them hated by the people for failing to save the day.

To even the playing field, Red Skull brings together his team of power giants called the Cabal. Red Skull's invitational transmissions are shown to have been received by Attuma, Doctor Doom, and Dracula even though only Attuma and Dracula accept the invitation. The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. intercept the transmission. The Avengers remain together to battle the Cabal. To stay close to each other after Avengers Mansion blew up, they set up their base in Avengers Tower. The Cabal later on adds Justin Hammer's robot creation Super-Adaptoid and Hyperion to their team. With the threat of the Cabal, the Avengers fight them at every end as well as other threats that come to Earth.

In the Stark Tower, Tony Stark is monitoring the former Avengers from afar as he explains to his computerized J.A.R.V.I.S. that the team had its reasons for disbanding.

Through Stark's computers we are introduced to Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Captain America. The latter who was about to face the Red Skull, whom Stark believe was dead. Iron Man flies to the rescue and ends up battling Hydra agents and Dreadnoughts. But arrives seconds too late, As Red Skull vanishes, and seemingly, killed Captain America. Iron Man also learns that M.O.D.O.K. is providing Red Skull the tech needed to stand against his nemesis.

Finding no other way possible to avenge Captain America's death, Iron Man activates "The Avengers Protocol" calling the team through a hologram device to a meeting. The heroes selected by Stark are Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk, Black Widow, and a S.H.I.E.L.D. trainee named Sam Wilson. Sam is in the middle of training with Nick Fury when the call comes and abandons his training session.

Everyone showed up except the last two, and have learned Captain America's demise and agreed to avenge their comrade. As The Avengers fly to the Hydra Base, in Antarctica, Sam Wilson visits the Stark Tower to pick up his suit. J.A.R.V.I.S. suggested the War Machine Armor, but Sam proposed the Red-Wing suit or Falcon suit.

Soon enough, the team assembles at Red Skull's base and learn that Captain America is still alive and was only unreported by M.O.D.O.K. to undergo a body change with his mortal nemesis the Skull. What ensues is a massive battle that ends up rescuing Captain America. After his defeat the Skull realizes where the true power resides in the Avengers team and orders M.O.D.O.K. attack and strips Tony of his Arc Reactor and Armor. Now clad in his armor he calls himself the "Iron-Skull". As Tony lies there dying Tony asks Captain America for help.

After the escpe of Red Skull, and M.O.D.O.K. the team rush to rescue Tony, but find the Quinjet blown to pieces. The only option is for them to all squeeze into the S.H.I.E.L.D. flying car. They rush him back to the Avengers mansion where Falcon hooks Tony up to machinery to restart his heart. Now with Tony recovering, he introduces his new Mark-50 armor and decides to track down the Rrd Skull on his own.

The Avengers now reassembled, go about the mansion, talking about the need for the team. The Hulk and Thor head to the training room to spar against each other. Now the Red Skull, and M.O.D.O.K. use special nanobot with the ability to manipulate the Avengers to turn on each other. During the Sparring session they the nanobots attack and infect them. They all battle each other with only Tony left uninfected. He cures his allies using a concentrated EMP. They find the Skull who was trying to steal Tony's tech, but he is stopped, but still has time to teleport away. It is then that Tony discovers the Mansion's reactor was about to blow. The team must work together to stop the explosion. They create a vortex shooting the explosive energy into the sky.

Red Skull defeated decides it's time to create a Cabal of villains to help him defeat the Avengers. He send out probes to recruit the Atlantean barbarian Attuma, Doctor Doom the ruler of Latveria, and Dracula the king of the Vampires.

The team now move to Stark Tower where they set up home as now a official team. As they settle in a call out comes across the screen informing them of the Great Wall of China "just stood up" and is on its way to Beijing. It is then that Tony reveals the new Aven-Jet Prime and Falcon said that it's the best day of his life.

The rookie Falcon is late to his first official Avengers meeting. Iron Man reassures him that the meeting is never on time. He brings the team some cookies made by his mother which the Avengers enjoy especially the Hulk. A fight breaks out for the last few cookies. A Space Phantom swaps bodies with Hawkeye and becomes a copy of him in order to get the Space Phantoms to invade Earth. Falcon goes on the tour of the compound first to his room which was filled with Tony's junk. Then viewing Thor's room that is larger on the inside thanks to Asgardian "inter-dimensional decorating", where he is fighting a Bilgesnipe. Then to Hawkeye's room which is covered in junk.

In a strange room he finds shelves filled with crystal animals which is revealed to be owned by the Hulk! Then a Space Phantom swaps bodies with Thor to help secure a portal to guarantee the Space Phantom invasion of Earth. When Iron Man finds Hawkeye and Thor near the portal device, his armor identifies that they have been possessed by Space Phantoms. During Falcon's training with Captain America, a Space Phantom possesses Captain America and attacks Falcon. Iron Man catches up to Falcon and saves him from a Space Phantom-possessed Black Widow. While shutting down Avengers Tower, Iron Man and Falcon are attacked by a Space Phantom-possessed Hulk.

Iron Man finds that Hulk and the others were misplaced as the Space Phantom-possessed Hulk calls forth a Space Phantom to possess Iron Man. While Falcon evades the Space Phantom-possessed Hulk, the other Avengers in Limbo are approached by Space Phantoms. The Space Phantom-possessed Thor and Captain America state that they have assimilated different dimensions. Back in Limbo, the Avengers discover that their hand-to-hand combat skills to fight the Space Phantoms in order to keep them from going through the other side. The Space Phantoms take down Falcon and remove his wing pack as the Space Phantom-Hulk punches through to Limbo in order to let the rest of the Space Phantoms through. Falcon activates his flight pack's Redwing Mode to trap the Space Phantom-Avengers in a wind vortex that sends them back to Limbo.

Falcon tells the Avengers that the Space Phantom copies don't have the skills of the actual Avengers as they take advantage of this. After defeating their clones, the Avengers escape back to Earth and shuts down the portal so that the Space Phantoms can't get through. When they return to earth they find some more cookies and the argument starts over again, with the Falcon happy they are home.

Ulik a member of the Rock Trolls from the caverns of the Realm Below in the extra-dimensional realm of Asgard. He comes to Earth using the Asgardian weapon called Codgel. Ulik travels to Midgard and using the powerful weapon he battles Thor, blasting him with the Asgardian weapon. The weapon allows him an advantage battle Iron Man arrives to help, battling the troll together, Thor knocks the weapon into the air. Thor realizes with the arrival of this weapon he is destined to perish. Thor dragged Ulik through the air knocking his head against buildings, while Iron Man struggled to find the weapon due it's mystical origin. A squad Hydra agents find the weapon, informing the Iron Skull of their findings. But they were attacked by Doom Dogs and Doctor Doom retrieves the weapon.

At Avengers Tower, Captain America joins the others to interrogate Ulik, who reveals he is there to take down the Son of Odin. Using the computer they search for the weapon, and track it to the Latverian Embassy. Thor destroyed the computer in anger with his hammer. At the Embassy Doctor Doom scanned the weapon, when he was contacted by the Iron Skull. He was annoyed by the theft and again Doom refuses the invitation to join the Cabal, and blasts the screen. In the Avengers jet the team headed to the Embassy, planning out the assault. They enter the grounds while Hawkeye goes in beneath the Embassy, but is attacked by Doombots, but he was able to take them out, until he was blasted by Doom.

The Avengers were attacked by Doombots and Doom Dogs, and they take them out until Doctor Doom bursts through the ground stating ' 'You dare trespass on Latverian soil!'

Using the weapon he battles the Avengers, holding his own against Thor and the team, having now mastered the weapon. He split the ground releasing the Midgard Serpent that bursts through the ground. It attacked the city, and when Iron Man scans it which shows it's growing, Thor reveals it will grow in size until it can consumes the planet. The creature is so powerful it sends the Hulk flying through the air. Doom takes control of the creature using the hammer. Falcon goes to find the Hulk, while Thor goes after the creature alone. Falcon finds the Hulk who is knocked out on the ground and struggled to wake him or moving. He then uses his Holo wings to flip him to the river.
