Will
Friedle said of the show's plot "The stories are so unbelievably
intricate. It involves so many different characters. I love shows that are like
a serial. I'm a fantasy book junky so I'm one of those guys where I like it
when it's book one of ten, and they are all 1,000 pages long. With Guardians,
can pick up in the middle, but you're going to want to go back to the start.
Marvel Comics editor Steve Wacker suggested that a series based on the Guardians
of the Galaxy was in the works. It was discussed at a writing summit for Disney
XD's Ultimate Spider-Man.
"Now, look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking
about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be
amazing?" Wacker wrote.An unnamed
source for JoBlo reportedly confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy series would be produced for a
Fall 2015 debut.
The same
footage was shown at New York Comic Con where it was formally
announced that the series was actually in production.The Marvel Animation panel
at the San Diego International Comic-Con in 2014 showed test footage from the
series. The footage had Rocket Raccoonrunning from unknown attackers until
he encounters Star-Lord.
The panel revealed that a Guardians series
had been planned since Ultimate Spider-Man.

senior vice-president of programming and general manager Mark Buhaj said
of the seires, "The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide
phenomenon. We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel
Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each
week."Head of
Marvel Television Jeph Loeb said "This is a very exciting time
for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the
Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
animated series. After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants
more of Star-Lord and his crew, now they'll get it.
The line-up
is to be the same as the live-action 2014 film.The series
contains many elements of the films but is not a direct continuation. The
producers were allowed to read the film's scripts, but only after they had
completed their work on the series. Eric Radomski, Marvel senior vp and
creative director of animation, said "They certainly aren't beholden to
what we do. It's going to go wherever James Gunn decides it's going
to go. Our stories pull from what we've learned from the movies and a lot of
originality on the part of the writers in terms of creating new adventures with
the characters.
Stephen
Wacker, vice president of Marvel Animation, spoke about the disconnect between
team seen on this show and on the other related shows. "I think the way
that it works is that, if you squint and accept that this is the beginning of
the team, then, as it goes on, it will all line up." He dubbed the series
"Phase Two" of Marvel Animation, referring to the stages of the Marvel
Cinematic Universe. "We've worked really hard over the last year to sort
of bring a new energy across all our shows. We’re not marketing it as 'Phase
Two' or anything, I'm just talking wise. We are trying to up our game, though.
That's for sure."
Wacker
revealed that Galactus would not appearing in the series, despite
already appearing in continuity, as the film rights were not held by Marvel
Studios. He said the Marvel cosmic universe is otherwise ripe for picking. He
also called the Badoon "the most boring" of Marvel alien
races. Both the film rights to Galactus and Badoon are held by 20th
Century Fox though have appeared in Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of
S.M.A.S.H..
Star-Lord led the Guardians of the Galaxy into raiding an alien prison
to spring Yondu. They learn from him that Korath the Pursuer has a Spartax
artifact that he plans to give to Thanos. After getting the artifact from
Korath, the Guardians head to Knowhere . While Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and
Groot's stick form meet Cosmo the Spacedog, Star-Lord learned from the Broker
that he is part Spartax. When Korath the Pursuer's group and Yondu's Ravagers
attack the Guardians of the Galaxy to claim the Spartax artifact, Knowhere
starts to come to life and ensnare everyone.
After the Cosmic Seed caused Knowhere to be briefly awakened and Groot
to be overpowered by its energies, Korath the Pursuer snatches Star-Lord and
Gamora in order to force Star-Lord to open the box for him by using a parasite
that makes Gamora relive her sins. Following the rescue of Star-Lord and
Gamora, Thanos leads his fleet into attacking Knowhere in order to claim the
Star Seed's box. As Star-Lord uses the Continuum Cortex in Knowhere to fight
Thanos' fleet, Groot helps Drax the Destroyer fight Thanos. Eventually, Cosmo
uses Knowhere's technology to transport the Guardians of the Galaxy and
Knowhere to a distant galaxy. After leaving Knowhere, Star-Lord discovers that
the Cosmic Seed's box is a map to the Cosmic Seed.
After the Guardians of the Galaxy narrowly escape a planet that Fin Fang
Foom was on, Rocket Raccoon accepts an offer to work for the Collector, while
the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy look for special Pandorian Crystals needed
to power the map to the Star Seed. What the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy
do not know is that the Collector has plans to add Rocket Raccoon to his
collection of alien creatures due to him being the last of his kind.
The Guardians crash land on a space station called Conjunction, which is
run by Grandmaster. The Grandmaster seeks to have Drax and Gamora fight each
other in the Conjunction Arena. The Guardians of the Galaxy look for Pandorian
Crystals from Star-Lord's old contact named Lunatik. They must also keep
themselves from being busted by Nova Corps member named Titus.
On a planet where the next Pandorian Crystal is, the Guardians of the
Galaxy find a race of aliens that are under attack by the rock like Rexians.
They fight them off. Afterwards, the Guardians go on a journey to save Groot.
Groot becomes infected with the same parasitic fungus that possessed the
Rexians. They also try not to get into conflict with a persistent Titus.
Rocket Raccoon is abducted and taken back to his home planet Halfworld.
Rocket finds that all the animal life including his family have become just as
enhanced as he is. When the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive on Half
World, they end up helping Rocket Raccoon when the evolved turtle Pyko leads his
fellow evolved creatures Ranger Rockets older brother, Blackjack O'Hare, and
Wal Rus leads a rebellion against the Halfworld Robots that evolved them.
